Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red wine
  • Optional: 1 1/2 cup vodka
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 tbsp cardamom pods
  • 2 tbsp ginger (sliced)
  • 8 cloves
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • Garnish: orange slices
  • Garnish: almonds (blanched and slivered)
  • Garnish: raisins

Directions

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a pot. Heat until the wine barely reaches a simmer: avoid boiling off the alcohol.
  2. Reduce the heat and let the wine simmer for 5-30 minutes.
  3. Remove from the heat and strain the mixture.
  4. Serve in heat proof glasses and garnish to your taste!
